The 60-second science ¼ the light you get at twice the distance

Distance is the ingredient nobody mentions

Light obeys the inverse-square law: move twice as far from a source and only a quarter of the light reaches you. That’s why a flat lamp aimed at your nose leaves your cheeks and jawline in the dim.

Gale’s three panels bend around you, so your forehead, cheeks and jaw each get their share.

Think of it like this

Standing near a campfire versus sitting in a circle around it. Same fire. Very different warmth on the sides of your face.

Inverse-square law

Ten minutes

Light without the mask

Nothing touches your face, so there’s nothing to strap on, fog up or wash afterwards.

Fine lines

Less wrinkling in 4 weeks

In a 76-person trial, red and near-infrared light twice a week reduced wrinkling and improved elasticity compared with a sham light.

Skin feel

Smoother, measured

In a 136-person trial, red light sessions improved skin roughness and complexion compared with controls.

Comfort

Zero contact

It sits over you like an awning, so it works for people who can’t stand a mask on their face.

How it works

Two wavelengths, two depths

Light between roughly 650 and 1,350 nanometers sits in the body’s optical window: the range where blood and water absorb the least, so light travels the furthest. Longer wavelengths reach deeper.

660NM · RED

Absorbed in the top layers of skin. The wavelength used in most skin studies.

850NM · NEAR-IR

Invisible to you, and it travels further into tissue, toward muscle and joints.

Myth vs truth

What most people get wrong about red light

Myth

Closer is always better.

Truth

Even beats close. A flat light pressed near your nose leaves your cheeks and jawline farther away and dimmer. A curved dome keeps every part of your face at a similar distance.

Inverse-square law
Myth

Red light is just a fancy heat lamp.

Truth

Heat is something you feel. The effect studied in red light therapy depends on color, not warmth: specific wavelengths get absorbed by one specific enzyme in your mitochondria. A space heater warms the room. It doesn’t change how your cells make energy.

Karu · IUBMB Life · 2010
Myth

If 20 minutes is good, an hour is better.

Truth

Light follows a biphasic dose response: too little does nothing, the right dose helps, and too much can cancel the benefit. It’s watering a plant, not filling a pool. Use the timer.

Your protocol

Sit back for ten minutes

When

Morning or evening

On clean, dry skin, before serums and moisturizer.

How long

10 minutes

Sit back, eyes closed, and let the timer end it.

How often

3 to 5 sessions a week

The skin studies measured results over weeks of regular use.

The research

LED light and facial wrinkles

Adults with facial wrinkles used red (633 nm), near-infrared (830 nm), both, or a sham light for 4 weeks. The real-light groups showed less wrinkling and better elasticity than sham.

Lee et al. · Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B · 2007

Whole-body red light and skin collagen

Full-body red light units, twice a week for 30 sessions. Skin complexion and roughness improved, and ultrasound measured higher collagen density than in the control group.

Mechanism

The enzyme that absorbs red light

Cytochrome c oxidase, part of the energy chain inside your mitochondria, absorbs red and near-infrared light and changes how the cell makes energy.

Biphasic

More light is not always better

Reviewed the dose response of low-level light: too little does nothing, the right dose helps, and too much can cancel the benefit.

FAQ

Questions

Is it safe for my eyes?

The light is bright up close. Wear the included goggles, or keep your eyes closed when your face is lit.

Do I use it before or after skincare?

Use it on clean, dry skin. Apply serums and moisturizer after the session.

How often should I use it?

Three to five sessions a week. Start on a low intensity level and let the timer end the session.

How do I store it?

The three panels fold flat, so it fits in a drawer or on a shelf.

How do I clean it?

Wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth after use. Never put it in the washer or submerge it.

Can I return it?

Yes. Start a return within 30 days of delivery by emailing info@tharsyn.com. The refund policy has the conditions.
